Ayurveda

Welcome to an extremely expedited, high level tutorial of a 5000 year-old ancient Indian health system called Ayurveda.  I started to learn about Ayurveda about 5 years ago.  I fully submerged to learn and came out a bit drowned in information.  It felt complicated, so I let it be to revisit at a later date.  That later date arrived, and it didn’t feel as heavy this time but simplistic, obvious, and clear.

“Ayurveda is considered by scholars to be the oldest healing science,” according to Ayurveda.com.  The definition of the word is the science of life and is often referred to as the “Mother of all Healing.”  It places a heavy emphasis on prevention and maintenance through balance of life, diet, and the use of herbs.

The proven benefits of Ayurveda are (Healthline):

  • Shed body fat by allowing detoxification
  • Glowing skin & healthy hair
  • Reduction in stress and anxiety
  • Improvement in the autonomic nervous system
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Cleansed body
  • Lowers blood pressure and cholesterol

Ayurveda strives to usher general well -being into daily life.  It asks you to remain focused on your body through nutrition, and your mind though meditation.  You should now be understanding why it’s incredibly powerful and been around for so long.

Any change in diet or lifestyle can be difficult.  If Ayurveda interests you, start slowly.  Educate yourself and implement a bit at a time to ensure success.

The basic principles of Ayurveda are don’t skip breakfast, eat a light dinner, avoid sleeping and waking late, drink water, eat organic produce, avoid smoking and drinking, and maintain an active lifestyle.  Easy right?  Maybe not, but you can’t argue that it isn’t a solid set of rules to live by.
